Vetiver essential oil is distilled from the vetiver plant’s roots, which are aged before being soaked in water. The highly concentrated oil that is released is then skimmed off the top of the water. It’s used in holistic practice for its soothing, grounding capabilities.
It takes around 200kg of fresh vetiver roots to produce 1kg of vetiver essential oil. This makes it an expensive essential oil, however, vetiver essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy and cosmetics.
Vetiver essential oil has a wonderful effect on the mind and body and is useful to dispel irritability, anger and hysteria, while having a balancing effect on the hormonal system and is a great boon for the skin.
It is used to reduce wrinkles and stretch marks, whilst nourishing & moisturising the skin and helping wounds heal. It has an earthy, musty smell - much like the smell of a damp forest floor and is amber to olive in colour.
